Babies that are less than four months old require less massage time as well as special handling. Infants only require a total of 10 minutes of massage time while babies older than four months can be given massages up to 20 minutes long. However, this could vary depending on the development of the individual child.
When holding an infant for massage, be sure to support its head by cupping it with one hand as the baby’s neck still is not strong enough to hold up the head on its own. Older babies have stronger, more developed neck muscles, allowing you to use both hands for the massage.
